Practicing my back pedal, Bixi style || Mile Ex, Montreal

Montreal Guide

Here are an array of places with good vibes and delicious food + drinks I stuffed my face with.

FOOD

Dinette Triple Crown || Mile Ex/Little Italy || Southern comfort food picnics! Order whatever you like and get it in one of their picnic baskets to take across the street to the park. Comes with cutlery, a picnic blanket, cups for wine (BYOB), sauces + large mason jar of water. My favourites: fried chicken, homemade iced tea, hush puppies and anything with the gravy ya'll.

Dispatch Coffee || Mile Ex || Delicious coffee + small pastries with a beautiful terrace in the quiet neighbourhood of Mile Ex.

Restaurant Manitoba || Mile Ex || Plates of food made from the forests + riverbeds of Quebec. Everything is regional and done with immense care. Attentive service, beautiful food + drinks with an equally stunning atmosphere. Sat and ate at the bar while one of the chefs taught us about their cooking methods, Quebec sea creatures and obscure plants used in the dishes. Each plate is a thing of beauty.

Boulangerie Guillaume || Mile End || OMG! Bakeries are my candy stores and this is like being in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory for me. Bountiful breads, buns, pastries, croissants, sandwiches, coffees, and the snozzberries taste like snozzberries. Get one of everything. I mean it. But definitely make sure you get a few chocolate + vanilla champignons (little mushroom shaped brioche buns with white chocolate throughout the moist dough). Also the croissants. Always the croissants

Cafe Olimpico || Mile End || An Italian neighbourhood institution that has been around since the 1970s. Seems like all of Mile End goes here for coffee and chats on the terrace while eating bagels from St Viateur. Baristas are sassy as hell so know what you want before you reach the front.

Le Dépanneur Café || Mile End || Delicious grilled cheeses, sandwiches, massive salads, good coffee + fresh pressed juices. Very affordable with healthy options and the plates are piled high. Favourite fresh pressed juice: carrot–orange–pineapple. Bohemian vibe with live music from 10 am to 5 pm every day. Chill out couches with a big front window.

Kem Coba || Mile End || Ice cream lovers unite! Lines can be long but the ice cream is worth it. Tried the cassis, Ontario peach, Vietnamese coffee and La dura (tastes like a mix between coconut + pistachio). All so yum.

Taza Flores || Mile End || Tapas, wine, + lovely atmosphere. What more could you want?!

St. Viateur Bagel || Mile End || Montreal bagels people. Do it. Then do it again. And again right before you leave so you can bring a dozen back home to freeze. I'm an everything bagel girl but their rosemary also stole my heart. The sell cream cheese and lox in the shops because. you. must.         Forget the Philadelphia and get the Liberté. You won't regret it.

Olive & Gourmando || Old Montreal || One of the best breakfast/lunch/brunch spots. Everything is delicious, tons of homemade baked goods + breads with lots of healthy options.  Rustic + vibrant vibe. Favourite dishes: Housemade Salty Ricotta + The Majestic Hotdog. Do it

Foxy || Griffintown || The ambiance and food match its name being sexy as hell. This was one of our favourite dinners in Montreal. We loved every single dish we ordered here so basically just get anything and everything you can. Cocktails were lovely and service was even lovelier. Most things are cooked over/in fire which adds to the atmosphere and flavours. Savoured every single bite and sip here.

Café Santropol || Le Plateau || Unless it's winter, you must sit on the terrace. Vibe= cute + cozy backyard with a pond and trees strewn with fairy lights. The perfect sandwich + salad type place where the food is healthy, afforable and plentiful. Tasty + interesting vegetarian options– veggie paté, coconut bacon, marinated tofu, carrot lox etc.

Au Kouign-Amann || Le Plateau || Massive kouign-amann that they cut into slices for sale. If you haven't tried kouign-amann, you are missing out on a pastry dream. Also, their croissants are puffs of heaven. Let's just say, I ate three for lunch one day. No regrets.

Patati Patata || Le Plateau || Poutines forever!!! The perfect combination of the right french fries, cheese curds + gravy. Plus mini burgers and mini blt's guys!

Jean Talon Market || Little Italy || This is my happy place. Mostly outdoor market with an abundance of produce, herbs, flowers, eggs, cheese, meat, seafood, maple syrup, honey + other farmers market goods. You can grab some ice cream, coffee, or oysters to snack on as you wander through this food lover's paradise.

DRINKS

Alexandraplatz Bar || Mile Ex || My new favourite bar. Industrial building turned brewery/bar. Small cocktail menu with affordable prices + delicious beers made on site. The space is amazing– big open space with a rolled up garage door + large terrace. Great place to go with friends in a quiet neighbourhood. Night market + block party with DJs, food trucks + artisans once a month in the summer. Have the bicicletta cocktail and call it a day.

Bar Henrietta || Mile End || Romantic and charming interior + terrace. Perfect for a date with a friend, lover or even a good book. Amazing cocktails with little snack plates. Favourite drink: Cinq Etoiles!

Bar Kabinet || Mile End || Cocktails + tons of amaros with a nice terrace and small cozy interior. Moscow mules are a must.

Casa Del Popolo || Mile End || Grungy local dive bar with live music every night + all vegetarian food menu. Secret back patio.

Dieu Du Ciel || Mile End || Romantic beer bar + brewery with terrace and vibrant atmosphere. Delicious beers and you should probably just get here as early as possible because it gets full and stays that way. Try: the hibiscus beer! Tart + refreshing

The Sparrow || Mile End || Busy local bar with cheap drinks + good vibes.

Bar Blizzarts || Le Plateau || Divey dance bar. Chill busy place with drinks and loud music of varying types depending on the night. Fridays is hip hop and rap if your heart desires (mine always does).
